World’s lousiest bank robbery took place in China
At 9:03 a.m. on February 7, a man walked into a branch of Postal Savings Bank of China in Baodi, Tianjin, and put on a black mask before he commenced his bank heist with the help of a …gun? No, a hatchet! Some Chinese netizens who watched the entire video footage recorded by the bank’s surveillance camera counted that the man hammered two toughened glass windows 198 times for 4 minutes before he broke a hole he could narrowly worm himself through to reach the counters. While he was taking his time breaking the glass, the bank clerks had enough time to manage to call the police and escape the bank through a back door.
Netizens described the hilarious robbery as consisting of “the coolest robber, the crappiest strategy, the most audacious mind and the most miserable ending.” Even the bank clerks and the police were mocked by the netizens as unprofessional and incompetent, as one bank clerk who had a stun baton did not try to stop the robber. Even though the armed police grabbed one foot of the robber, who was then stuck in the hole, the robber still managed to flee the scene through a back door at gunpoint.
Despite the fact that the video has become viral on the internet, so far no official news source has verified the authenticity of the video. Some doubted that it is a carefully rehearsed and edited troll. Some even joked it can be used as a commercial for toughened glass.
