Video: How news interview is rehearsed in China

March 9, 2011Jing GaoOne Comment, , , ,

A fruit gardener in Baoding, China’s northern Hebei Province, is being taught by the TV reporter to say in front of the camera “This year, the fruit gardens haven’t encountered a hail disaster. (今年的果园没有遭受雹灾.)”
Because of his heavily accented Mandarin and probable undereducation, he repeated it several times before getting it right.

Is it funny or sad?

Helpless +1, there is no other choice. If you can’t stand it, what can you do after you quit? You still have to go on to do despicable things like this, don’t you? Or you come clean? Then I guess you can’t even turn into ashes. (Jing: Means end up terribly.)

Support! Sometimes media people are very helpless. I understand.

@ppood68:

I just belong to this profession. There are too many cases like this in which we have to teach the interviewee what to say. He repeats my words, and then it is OK. What he said previously, be it hundreds or thousands of words, is useless for news. When I get back, with a touch of fingers, I will cut it to achieve the effect I desire. Sometimes I have to delete interviewees’ statement and change it to mean otherwise. Sometimes I feel that I am really shameful.

This old man would never dream of himself being this red-hot.. … …

说一下这事:

Don’t mention China. It’s the same everywhere. Except for those who have experienced this, everyone will be nervous. The scenes we’ve watched were all cut and edited. They won’t let you see one that doesn’t know how to speak and stutters.
