At around 11 a.m. on July 6, a lightning hit the roof of a pig barn in the suburb of Shenzhen, Guangdong province, and ripped open a 4-meter long crack. 53 pigs staying inside the barn were instantaneously killed by the lightning strike.

While most people expressed their sympathy for the pig farmer’s loss, some entertained doubt: how can so many pigs be killed by one lightning strike? Is it an insurance fraud committed by the pig farmer to receive payment for damages?

The pig farmer, in reply to such speculations, said that none of the 200 pigs she had been raising was even insured, so there is no motive for an insurance fraud. She said she was feeding piglets in the pigpen three meters away from the barn, and the 53 pigs killed were sleeping after having had a full meal, when the lightning struck. “After a streak of blue light flashed by, I heard pigs’ scream. Then they all froze.” The picture shows a backhoe removes the pig bodies.

An engineer at the lightning protection center said that from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on that day, Shenzhen experienced 188 recorded lightning bolts, the largest carrying 110,000 ampere, which is more than enough to kill a human being or an animal.

It is determined that the lightning strike also had much to do with illegal electric hookups that the pig farmer used. Hooking up unauthorized electric wires without setting up any lightning protection device is very dangerous, it is said. The picture shows the inside of the pig barn.

Angel: Oh my god! You hit the wrong targets!
God: Aren’t these cadres?
Angel: …They do look like cadres, but cadres wear clothes.
God: But last time when you pointed one to me, he wasn’t wearing any!
Angel: That’s because he was whoring an underage girl…

A great talent.

My ass. God must have been blind. You just can’t find the right place to strike! Why do you pick on ordinary people and victimize them? Why don’t you strike those ornate office buildings? Then no matter how many pigs you strike to death there, the grassroots will cheer and wave flags for you!

Are you kidding? It is lenient of them not to ask you to pay electricity bill. Do you have any ideal how many watts a bolt of lightning contains? You will go bankrupt if you have to pay for it. Now you are using it for free, and you have the guts to kick up a row? Come quickly and pay your power bill.

There is not a single burn on their bodies while they died from a lightning strike? Instead the bodies turned dark… Were they poisoned to death?

All of a sudden so many 50 cents and their relatives died. Must be due to the wrath of God and the resentment of the people! (50 cents, or 5 mao: people who defend the Chinese government and support the authoritarian regime. The term originates from the fact that many Chinese internet users were paid 50 Chinese cents for each post that sings government praises.)

Those who shouldn’t have died all died. Those who should have died all lived.
