Women sexually harassed and stripped of clothes by crowds in Water Splashing Festival

From NetEase

The Water Splashing Festival of some of China’s ethnic minorities is meant to be a Carnival-like celebration where everyone gets splashed, sprayed or soaked with water, but the one held in a county traditionally inhabited by Miao people in Hainan province on August 23 ended abruptly on an ugly note: not long after the start of the festival was announced at 8:30 a.m., a dozen women were pinned down by a crowd of males, who mauled the women’s breasts and stripped off clothes of a few in broad daylight.

Finally the local police intervened and escorted the female victims away, although the wicked smile on one officer’s face is pretty self-explanatory.

Hainan Water Splashing Festival, why not just call it Boys Taking Liberties Festival? People’s quality of character is really leaving the rest of the world behind.

Even though they have taken advantage, they’ve lost their human qualities. So these people should be called ‘Animals.’

A bunch of animals. Those who laid their hands, wish your wives and daughters would be molested in the future as well!

Those who fish in muddied waters (who profit by taking advantage of disturbances) will always live at the bottom hierarchy.

This I agree.

I am once again shocked by news like this. First of all, should we really reflect upon the issue of our countrymen’s (low) quality of character? Should those institutions, which only go after economic interests and ignore real education introspect over the happening of such things? Second, look at the facial expression of these spectators. It reminded me of scenes of little Japanese invaders burning, killing and pillaging in China in those movies. I guess the man who held his girlfriend in his arms should have had the same thought. Third, I myself really denounce the organizers in Hainan of such an event. Stop ignoring issues like safety for the blind pursuit of the so-called tourism industry. Last but not least, I want to remind those who have been to or are planning to go to Hainan on vacation: My friend, think twice about that.

You have to be psychologically prepared for this if you want to have fun with it. Just look at those girls abroad. They all strip themselves naked and let others tough.

Look at the hairstyles of all those people. They are all rural migrants!

In an era when men far outnumber women, when a girl with even a tiny little beauty would rather be the mistress, when poor people are not allowed to find a hooker, or download porn for masturbation, the consequence is, women, a rarity, are sexually taken advantage of by the glut of men. If there are more men than women, like in the All-Female Kingdom in Journey to the West (Chinese classic novel), it will be men who are molested.

Everyone, look at the fourth picture. The policeman on the left has a ghastly lewd smile while looking at the victim.

I have to agree with the notion that this kind of thing is a direct result of the one child policy. Men are more likely to behave like boors without female influence. I don’t see this happenning the way it did if the ratio of men to women had been 50:50.

As a woman living in a country with more women than men I contest sexual assault still happens no matter what the ratio is. Japan also has a high female sex ratio yet there’s enough sexual assault problems there regarding things like public transportation. Taiwan also has a high male population because of gender selective abortion (one comparable to the mainland).

This is an issue of isolated incident, bad behaviour amongst young men, and poor policing. Taiwan has a more secure economy, better education and better policing, so these things happen less. These festivals have happened before, and every yearly festival anywhere occasionally one year goes wrong.

So basically don’t think one child policy is to blame for every goddamn sexual assault case out there. To blame it on something like that is like taking away blame from the guilty party!

No one is saying one child policy is the sole reason for sexual assault. But sexual assaults are largely male on female in nature and there are plenty of examples where the frequency can happen more in a largely male group as oppossed to largely female or equal ratio make-up group. Bottom line, in most cases women do not participate in sex attacks. And more often then not, women are the reason sex attacks are brought to an end or thwarted outright. This isn’t always the case but the numbers clearly lean one way.

What the one child policy does is pretty much guarantee that the average group mix is more likely to be male. Hence, more possibilities for the wrong mix to occur. It doesn’t neccessarily mean that it WILL lead to sexual assault, just increase the chances.

As an American, I can’t believe the level of ignorance I see in the media and on the internet regarding China. America has a Senator who just publicly claimed that rape victims can’t get pregnant. This is an awesome festival and you people are cowards.

because the event and the mindset of the participants has gotten less insular when the Chinatown fireworks during New Year started to have more people outside of the neighborhood, it wasn’t nice and civilized anymore. The streets used to be carpeted in red paper shreds but it was all friendly and well mannered. I’m sure that’s how this water festival used to be.

So its 2013 and China is still one of the most undescribable country. Men abusing women, people abusing animals, I mean the people of China are indescriabable. Aren’t they ashamed of what their country has shown the world? The character quality of people all over the world is degrading. What has society done to people?? Society made people mad and insane. With all your qualities left behind. I really hope the world will end soon so this kind of stupidity will end.

Oh my goodness! How can China be so low? First, you threaten other territories because you’re a much bigger and stronger country. Now, this? You’re country is a disgrace! You can’t even protect your own women and children!
